Mr Fritz won 6-3, 6-4 against Arthur Fils, in the last 16, in Paris. He had played his first two matches on courts 1 and 2. Then he discovered the centre court.
He said: “The centre court is much faster. It would have been different on another court.” Mr Fils, for his part, said: “We’re not really used to playing on hard courts like that anymore.” They agree. That’s rare, after a match.
I’m not criticising. I’m comparing. In Couvin, in the same house, the kitchen had tiles and the living room had parquet. We knew it. Guests were warned at the door, with the slippers. Nobody discovered the tiles while the coffee was being served.
Here, a centre court much faster than the other courts, and it is discovered in the last 16. Mr Fritz wrote “Still Alive” on the camera. Good for him, he is still in the running for Turin. Mr Fils is already there, for his first Masters, from 15 to 22 November.
Court 4 at my club is exactly that. Except we have neither 1 nor 2 to compare.
The man who lays the floors surely knew about the slippers.
It’s true, we checked: Tennis Actu.
